Man the world is so strange. I moved to the US from the UK at the age of 29. I am 35 now but i dont know who I am anymore. I feel I have lost my identity. We used to fight for things that mattered, for right and wrong, now all we fight for is to silence liberal identity politic and petty shit we see on tv. We might have all the technology in the world, but we are more divided and more polarized than ever and it hurts. This generation doesn't believe in anything real, just propaganda.

How to survive WWI: 1) Be Lance Corporal Williams Schofield. One of the best moments in the history of cinema. Quite a movie-a simple story masterfully done that told a much larger story, and that was the tragic futility of the First World War. It is art rather than entertainment or history. Having done exhaustive research on the war for One Night in a Bad Inn, many visual details were familiar. I don't remember being so affected by a movie since the Passion of the Christ. I think seeing it on the big screen amplified the intensity. We saw it in XD. I also can't recall a movie in which the music was this effective in amplifying the drama; the music sweeps you into the scene. I found it remarkable that the leads were played by unknown actors while three A list actors played cameo roles. Though the director's grandfather was in the war and one of his stories was the inspiration for movie, the story line was fictional as were the characters. Telling the details of history was not the point of the film. Telling the broad truth of a war that was one the greatest tragedies in history was.
I suggest sitting toward the back of the theater. The dialogue included R rated language that I can always do without. If you are familiar with the First World War, put all that out of your head. I was distracted thinking where are they, which battle. That's not the point. Just watch it. Having seen only one other best picture nominee, this definitely deserved to win.

1917 123movies. I just watched the World War 2 documentary on Netflix which was really good which makes me really excited to watch this movie. Midway was a huge turning point in the war because America intercepted and decoded one of the transmissions from Japan. in the trailer here it accurately describes how the decision/decoding of the message wasn't believed at first. 1917 showtimes. 1917 trailer. Weak writing, overall unrealistic and definitely overrated. That one so called mistake for a scene where he got hit by running soldiers, for me, is beautifully natural. It suited the urgency while the camera kept on running farther leaving him behind and him running faster to keep up with the camera; my takeaway from that scene is the feeling of helplessness but urgency to make it out alive, keep up, and complete his mission. About the first soldier who bumped him and not getting up, for me, it is still a realistic thing a soldier might do, considering the psychological factors that could have led to him to do just so. It is like a moment where he just wanted to stay behind the chaos and excuse himself from charging towards certain death, or probably just hitting his head and getting all dizzy, coupled with the stress, confusion, and anxieties he also endured as a soldier. Maybe a mix of all these things led to him not getting up. Just my take on such an iconic scene; a soldier stumbling down physically and mentally.

I didn't like how unrealistic the story was and also how the characters were so dumb. Found myself yelling at the screen.
1) Plane crashes and ends up right at our lead protagonists feet.
2) Main guys have to pull the German pilot out of the plane to save him. Why? Then you are so worried about getting him water and he stabs and kills you! It is war, I don't think you do either of these things especially given you are on a mission against the clock!
3) Other guy mourns his friend and kills a bunch more time while on the clock.
4) Surviving guy hangs out with french girl and baby for 15 minutes while he is on the clock.
5) Will Schofield makes it to the finish line but is already too late. Would many lives been saved if he isn't hanging out with the French girl and her baby?
6) Characters decisions seemed dumb and against the mission in parts of the movie.

1917 hindi dubbed. I had one of the most cathartic and euphoric experiences I've ever had watching this scene. It completely took my breath away, and reduced me to tears. Thomas Newman is one of the absolute greats of film composition, and he deserves way more recognition than he gets. And Roger Deakins' cinematography is some of the most exquisite I've ever seen. I like war movies. Last one I saw was Dunkirk. This didn't rank up to it. The dialog was lacking. The way it was filmed got me nauseous, motion sickness. The plot was little weak. It was ok movie. Not a wow moment.
